Met terugwerkende kracht zal ik ook over de beleefde avonturen wat vertellen :)
We had two weeks without a Monday because of Auckland Holiday and Waitangi Day. The weather was perfect so we spent these days outside, close to the sea and with an ice-cream in our hand. Because of these little holidays I didn’t really get into writing again. So I will start writing now.
Monday
We had a day off because of Auckland Anniversary. It was X years ago that someone landed in the Bay of Islands (2/ 3 hours up North from Auckland city). That’s why all Aucklanders have a day of the last Monday of January. It doesn’t make sense, but it’s wonderful to have so many days off in summer. I started my day with Bikram yoga and made myself a healthy smoothie for lunch. After that Jay and I drove up to Milford to meet our friend Georgie and together we made a little beach walk down to Takapuna. At the beach over there they sell amazing (coconut) ice-creams, so this was the perfect place to stop before walking back. It was so good seeing and chatting with Georgie again. In the evening Jay and I decided to keep the lazy vibe and we picked up some Indian food. Extra Sundays are so nice.
Tuesday
Tuesday I worked in the butcher shop, I do really enjoy being there a couple of days a week. Talking to customers, preparing nice products and making the shop look smart feels good. We had nachos with guacamole for dinner and I think I really didn’t do anything that evening.
Wednesday
Today I had planned for doing dishes, cleaning the house and preparing for our Europe trip. It’s crazy that in less than 3 months Jay and I are flying to The Netherlands to travel for 5 weeks. We already decided when to go where so I spend the whole day finding good, clean and cheap accommodation. I love doing that and I think I did a pretty good job. It always takes a bit longer than expected though, so it cost me pretty much my whole day. So in the afternoon I had to hurry to make it to my volunteer appointment with my friend with a disability. In that hurry I ruined a quiche but I did not find that out till I got home in the evening. Emma was super pleased so see me and even happier that I took her out for hot chocolate and something sweet, so that made me happy as well. After that I stopped in town for 1,5 hours of Bikram yoga and the rest of the evening I spend trying to have my quiche, watching August Rush on Netflix (such a good, happy movie) and eventually eating my quiche/ omelette with lots of sweet chili sauce.
Thursday
Thursday I had a relaxt day, I read my book, sent some emails, watched a movie and cleaned the fridge. I try to think of something to write that makes it look like I actually did something that day. Twenty minutes later I still can’t think of anything. I made courgetti puttanesca, one of my favourite easy and quick dishes. I watched The Spectacular Now which was an okay movie and I prepared a pasta salad for Friday night dinner.
Friday
Friday started with an early yoga class and after that I worked. Fridays are good because people start buying there weekend (barbeque) meat and are happy to chat about their plans. In the evening we turned the barbeque on for some nice steak, a friend of Jay came over for dinner and I read a bit in my book.
Saturday
Jay and I went on a trip to the East Coast this weekend. First stop was Auckland city for breakfast with Jays Aussie friends Steve and Maria. They just went on a trip to Antartica and Buenos Aires, so heaps to talk about! I enjoyed their company and the lovely coffee and cinnamon rolls at Olaf’s very much. After breakfast we drove down to the stunning Secret Falls near Tauranga. My monkey boyfriend went all the way down, I decided not to risk it and stay at the viewpoint. Quite disappointed now, so maybe we go back in April and take lots of time to get me down as well. In the afternoon, we drove all the way to Gisborne and stayed in an Airbnb over there.
Sunday
Sunday was a road trip day! I love driving around New Zealand with my love, you see so many new places in one day the scenery is always new and amazing. We drove a very windy road all the way along the remote East Cape of New Zealand. On the way we stopped at lovely bays, a long historic jetty, a 750-steps stairs that leaded us to the most easterly lighthouse in the world, beautiful beaches and at a macadamia farm for ice-cream. Our day ended in Whakatane (or Whatakane) where we had fish and chips in the harbour. What a perfect day! We would make another adventure the day after, but I will tell you about that next week!
Love,
Susan

If it wasn't for your job at the butchers I woulds say that your stay overthere is one big ever lasting holiday.... L & K
